Education A renowned public school system, including eight high schools, nine middle schools, 23 elementary schools, a K-12 magnet school, a night high school and an alternative school, as well as nine private schools, provide Gallatin and Sumner County with exceptional primary education opportunities, while Volunteer State Community College and several nearby universities allow students to extend their education while staying close to home. COMPASS (Community Outreach Making Partnerships At Sumner Schools) promotes partnerships between the business community and Sumner County Schools to expand educational opportunities and encourage educational achievement. Educate & Grow Sumner County is a local scholarship program created by the Sumner County Board of County Commissioners as an outgrowth of the Tennessee Scholars Program to cultivate and maintain a qualified workforce for Sumner County businesses. Sumner County students who meet the Tennessee Scholar requirements are eligible for funding of four semesters of tuition and fees at Volunteer State Community College. Vocational training opportunities are also plentiful and the Gallatin Economic Development Agency's Executive Director sits on the Sumner County Technical Career Training Advisory Panel, the purpose of which is to identify skill sets that high-school graduates will need to successfully compete for jobs in local industries.
