GEAR

GEAR

Gallatin's Economic Development Agency provides "service after the sale" with its existing industry networking initiative, the GEAR - Gallatin Expansion and Retention - Program.

Gallatin's manufacturing community is made up of everything from distribution to light manufacturing to corporate headquarters. Sumner Regional Medical Center and Volunteer State Community College also represent more than just great community assets. They, too, are major employers that help to shape the healthy economic landscape of the city.

A business-friendly, union-free environment helps these companies grow and invites others to join them in Gallatin based on this growth. Over the past year, companies such as MEPS, Salga Plastics and ITW-CIP have undergone major expansions at their Gallatin facilities. While many other companies such as ServPro, Fleetwood Homes, ABC Fuel Systems, Jamison Bedding, and Linatex have not increased their physical plant, they have made noticeable changes by adding product lines and increasing their employment totals.

The GEAR Program is designed to provide these great corporate citizens with whatever assistance is needed from the Gallatin Economic Development Agency, other City departments, or from other local, regional, and state organizations. GEAR meets quarterly, rotating its meetings from facility to facility. The company leadership sets the agenda and scope of work. Whether it be installing a left turn signal, improving a road, facilitating a meeting among local educators, providing an update about issues of the day, or any other task - small or large - the EDA is there to learn and respond to the needs of Gallatin companies.

Perhaps the most significant aspect of GEAR, however, is the networking opportunity it provides for local business leaders. As one of those leaders recently said, "I didn't know this group of professionals at all before the existing industry program began. Now I have made several relationships and talk to these guys on a regular basis. Together, we have helped each other solve problems and gotten to know one another. It's really made our lives here a lot easier and better."
